Follow the money: a year of the Trump family cashing in
The New Yorker's John Cassidy tallied the family's 2025 deals, much of it in crypto and foreign money, and found nothing like it in American history.
In his year-end column, New Yorker writer John Cassidy tracked company announcements, filings and reporting from several outlets on the Trump family's business ventures during the first year of the second term. Many of the deals involve cryptocurrency and foreign investors, and several connect directly to administration policy, such as the push to make the United States the center of the crypto industry.
Cassidy's argument is that other presidential relatives have had questionable business deals, but none at this scale of money or geographic reach, or with such explicit ties to presidential actions. Because many Trump ventures are privately held, he notes, a complete accounting is not possible.
